YouTube Music app updated with offline albums, songs and more

The YouTube Music app was just on the receiving end of a new update, and with it comes a special new feature specifically for YouTube Red subscribers. Those with a subscription can now save playlists, songs, and albums for offline access, shedding the need to use data when out and about where WiFi connections aren't available. The update is available now.

The updated functionality can be found in the most recent version of both the Android and iOS apps. YouTube Music, of course, is an app that takes you straight to all of the music video content on YouTube, though you could find it manually using the regular YouTube app if you so desired. YouTube Red, meanwhile, is the service's more premium option, and you have to pay for it.

If you use YouTube Music without a YouTube Red subscription, you can view the music videos for free but you'll also have to deal with advertisements. YouTube Red gets rid of those ads, and also allows you to play videos with your phone's display turned off, the ideal scenario when listening to music playlists. YouTube Red costs $9.99/month.

Per the update's change log, "YouTube Red members can now take songs, albums, and playlists offline to keep listening without a connection." It's that simple. Download the content while you're connected to a WiFi network, then enjoy the music when you're away from home without using up your mobile data. Of course, that's not a concern if you have an unlimited data plan, of which Verizon, T-Mobile and more have options.
