Xperia XZ2 Premium is going to cost you this much

While some will always be able to find ways to justify the groundbreaking high prices of the likes of the iPhone X or Galaxy Note 8, they seem to have started an unfortunate trend. They have proven that some consumers are not so averse at paying four-digit figures for the latest and greatest phones. That may have inspired Sony with its Xperia XZ2 Premium which launches in the US next month, carrying such a price tag that might make some question if it's worth it.

Mind, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is premium in every sense of the word, especially in its hardware. You have the staples like a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of RAM, and 3,540 mAh battery. And like other Premium models before it, the Xperia XZ2 Premium boasts of the still rare 4K screen, more precisely 3840x2160 over a 5.8-inch panel.

But the Xperia XZ2 Premium's crowning glory is really what's on its back, Sony's first dual cameras on a phone. And not just any dual camera, but one capable of 4K HDR video recording, a perfect match to its 4K HDR screen. But wait, there's more! The phone is capable of reaching ISO levels of 51,200 for photos and 12,800 for videos. With the original 960 fps slow-mo capability, the Xperia XZ2 Premium definitely shouts premium features, at least as far as entertainment and photography goes.

But does that justify the price tag? Sony's phones are, after all, notorious for being more expensive than their counterparts and the Japanese consumer electronics giant doesn't seem at all fazed about the gap. So when it says that the Xperia XZ2 Premium will cost $999.99, that is both unsurprising yet also disappointing for those who want to get their hands on one.

Still, some might be able to afford an Xperia XZ2 Premium and those that do can pre-order on one Amazon and Best Buy starting July 9. Full retail starts much later on July 30, though. If you do buy from Amazon, Sony will thrown in an Xperia Ear Duo earbuds at no extra charge.
