Xbox One Wireless Controllers updated with trio of new designs

Following a day after Sony unveiled a specially designed Dualshock 4 controller comes a similar announcement from Microsoft: it has three new Xbox One controller designs in the pipeline, and they'll be joined by a new slimmer Xbox Wireless Adapter for using the controllers with a Windows 10 PC. The new products will be available starting on August 3.

The new Xbox Wireless Controller designs are as follows: Volcano Shadow Special Edition, Green/Grey, and Patrol Tech Special Edition. According to Xbox, the two-tone Green/Grey controller — which is primarily grey with bright green accents — will be available starting on August 3, though you can preorder it now for $64.99 USD.

Joining that model is the Volcano Shadow Special Edition, a design that builds upon the Shadow design series Microsoft launched in 2016. As the name suggests, this model features a fiery red lava-like color that fades as a gradient into a darker, shadowy black. This model has a metallic finish with a matte top and glossy buttons/triggers and D-pad. This model is slightly more expensive at $69.99; it, too, will arrive on August 3.

Finally, there's the Patrol Tech Special Edition, a design that features a new Tech series look that, says Microsoft, is inspired by military tech and patterns. This controller has a laser-etched texture, insignia, and silver accents, as well as a rubberized diamond grip on the back. This model will start shipping on September 5 at $69.99 USD, and it'll be available at that same cost with a 'Cable for Windows' starting on October 17.

As mentioned, Microsoft has also slimmed down the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, which is used to connect an Xbox controller with a PC or tablet for gaming. Says the company, this model is 66% smaller than the previous version; it can support up to 8 controllers at once and also offers support for wireless stereo audio. This mode will ship starting some time this month for $24.99 USD.
