Windows 10's My People Feature Arrives In Latest Insider Build
Windows 10 users in Microsoft's Insider program are used to testing out the operating system's newest updates via test builds, and the latest includes a feature that was missing from the recent Creators Update. Called My People, the feature acts as a shortcut to users' most frequent contacts, allowing quick access to messaging and file sharing options. My People get pinned to the Windows 10 taskbar, making the selected contacts just a click away.
My People is part of the latest Insider build (16184), and is expected to be released to all users later this year as part of the next major Windows 10 update, currently known as Redstone 3. Not exactly a full-blown app, My People acts as more of an update to the taskbar's interface.
Users can select up to three of their contacts in the preview build, and when one is clicked on from menu, a messaging window opens showing conversations with that person. My People will use Skype by default, but other applications can be used in its place. In the future, the feature will gain drag-and-drop file sharing, and additional integration with Mail.
Speaking of Mail, this Windows Insider build also makes the newest mail and calendar features available for Gmail users. Those who use their Google accounts with the built-in Mail app can take advantage of Focused Inbox for enhanced filtering options and the ability to track packages and travel reservations in the calendar, features that were previously limited to Outlook.com and Office 365 accounts.
