Verizon To Offer iPhone 4 Discount, HTC Thunderbolt For Free?

Verizon has just confirmed tiered data plans to start this Thursday. For power data users, that could mean an unwelcome hike to your monthly bill. Potential customers would certainly be put off by the news, but Verizon may have a strategy for luring them in still. A screenshot has been leaked that suggests the carrier may be getting ready to discount some premium handsets including the iPhone 4.

VZbuzz managed to get a screenshot of what appears to be an upcoming ad page showing several premium handsets discounted and even free. The 16GB iPhone 4 is shown with a $50 discount, dropping it down to $150.99 with a two-year contract. That contract will certainly require a tiered data plan that will eat away at the $50 savings pretty quickly. The iPhone 4 sale could also be to make room for the rumored iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 coming in September.

Another handset to note is the HTC Thunderbolt, which we happen to like very much in our review. The blazing Android smartphone normally costs $299.99 and has been surprisingly listed as Free. The Motorola Droid X and the BlackBerry Bold 9650 both get a 50 percent discount.
