Verizon iPhone defections "within our expectations" says AT&T CEO

Verizon may have sold 1m CDMA iPhone 4 handsets in the first weekend, according to one analyst report, but the number of users crossing over from AT&T to the new version is still unclear. AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega told the WSJ that "We haven't seen any surprises" and that "everything is pretty much within our expectations" but declined to state any specific figures.

With those all-important numbers still missing, it's impossible to know if AT&T had already predicted a mass-exodus and de la Vega is merely putting a positive spin on the change. At least one app provider has suggested that the majority of new Verizon iPhone 4 owners jumped ship from AT&T rather than crossing over from Android or other devices.
