Today Google Home adds Spotify Free

Google Home's vast collection of device and service connections expands today with Spotify Free. This is the version of Spotify users can take advantage of (for free) with commercials and slightly lower-quality audio than a paid account. This update should be made today to add to the ever-growing list of voice-controlled services and devices shown below.

Google Home previously had connectivity with the Premium Account Spotify, this newest update allows the free version to be activated as well. Google updated us today on the addition of "Spotify Free and Premium" to their list of "Control By Voice" items for Google Home. Users should have access to this update today or within the next few days.

Other audio partners and services on Google Home include Google Play Music – both free and premium, YouTube Music (USA and Australia only), and Pandora (US and Australia only). Spotify, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio round out the audio list.

Smart Home devices and ecosystems that work with Google Home include Nest Thermostats, Philips Hue, and Samsung SmartThings. Also on the list are Honeywell, Belkin Wemo, Wink, TP-Link, and LIFX. The Best Buy Insignia works here, as does the service If This Then That by IFTTT.

Additional Smart Home devices and partners of Google Home include Osram, Lowes Iris, Lutron Caseta, iHome, Emberlight, Leviton, Artik Cloud, and all iDevices (Lights, plugs, and switches). This list (as of publishing time for this article) also includes NuBryte, Universal Devices (Lights, plugs, and switches), Mobilinc (Lights, plugs, and switches), and LightwaveRF. Finally we have Plum, Voice UPB Bridge, Smartika, Nanoleaf, Hive, Awair, Wiz, Deako, Geeni, and Lutron Connect.

Streaming devices for Google Home include all Chromecasts (Chromecast, Chromecast Audio, and Chromecast Ultra). Brands like Vizio, Toshiba, Philips, Sony, and Grundig have streaming devices (like TVs, for example) that work with Google Home. Bang & Olufson + B&O PLAY and Polk Audio are also on the streaming devices list for Google Home.

This list is expanding, too – this is just what's available in Streaming Devices, Smart Home, and Audio so far. Google Home is available through Target, the Google Store online, Lowe's, and a whole bunch of other places right this minute – it'll cost around $110 regardless of purchase point.
