The 2017 Mazda CX-5 got a reboot: Here's what it costs

Mazda has priced up the new 2017 CX-5, replacing its best-selling model with a revamped version that boosts spec and refinement. The new CX-5 kicks off at $24,045 (plus $940 destination), Mazda confirmed today. Three trim levels will be offered, as well as a selection of options packages and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The cheapest of the new SUVs is the 2017 CX-5 Sport. That comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and cloth seats, along with air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, keyless start, LED headlights, and cruise control. It also throws in Smart City Brake Support and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

That includes Bluetooth and two USB ports, along with an AM/FM/HD radio. Mazda opted to remove the CD player for the 2017 model year, thou you do get a backup camera as standard. Like all the 2017 CX-5 versions, the Sport comes with FWD as standard, a 2.5-liter SKYACTIV engine, and a six-speed automatic transmission. The i-ACTIV AWD version is $25,345.

Next step up is the 2017 CX-5 Touring, which is $25,915 in FWD form or $27,215 for the AWD. It switches out the cloth for leatherette seats with suede inserts, and adds front seat heating. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is added, together with rear privacy glass, auto-leveling LED headlights, leather wrap to the steering wheel and shifter, a rear center armrest and rear HVAC vents, dual-zone climate control, and USB ports in the back. The 40/20/40 split rear bench also reclines.

As an option, there's the CX-5 Touring Preferred Equipment Package. For $780 more, you get a Bose 10-speaker audio system, a power glass moonroof, and a power tailgate. Navigation is added, plus auto-dimming mirrors and automatic headlamps. Throw in the $625 Touring i-ACTIVSENSE Package on top, meanwhile, and you get high beam control, lane-departure warnings and lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and Smart Brake Support.

Finally, there's the 2017 CX-5 Grand Touring, at $29,393 for the FWD or $30,695 for the AWD. It packs black or parchment leather and an 8-way power driver's seat, 19-inch alloy wheels, and SiriusXM radio. There's also rain-sensing wipers and heated side-mirrors, plus adaptive front lighting, and a switch to LEDs for the front fog lights and tail lights.

Add in the $1,830 Grand Touring Premium Package and you get a head-up display – which projects onto the windshield rather than the pop-up reflector of previous Mazdas – together with traffic sign recognition, a power front passenger seat, heated rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Mazda's distinctive Soul Red Crystal paint, as shown here, is $595, while Machine Gray Metallic (available only on Touring and Grand Touring) is $300. Snowflake White Pearl Mica is $200.

Mazda says the 2017 CX-5 should begin showing up in dealerships across the US come March. Curious as to how it drives? We can tell you that very soon...
