Tesla pulls Model X 60D listings after just three months

The entry-level price for Tesla's Model X line just got a fair amount more expensive, as the automaker has pulled listings for the Model X 60D. This leaves the 75D as the entry-level Model X, weighing in at $85,500 as compared to the 60D's asking price of $74,000. That's a sizable difference for two already expensive cars.

Of course, that $11,500 discount was getting you a lower driving range than the 75D thanks to software that limited the 75 kWh battery to 60 kWh. That software limitation could be removed by shelling out a further $9,500, which put the price of the 60D more in line with what Tesla is selling the 75D at.

With that in mind, we might arrive at the reason why the 60D was pulled just three months after its introduction. It seems safe to assume that 60D sales weren't up to snuff for Tesla, and since it isn't exactly a huge automaker that can afford to offer models which are clearly less popular alongside its superstar sellers, pulling the plug on 60D production probably seemed like the right course of action.

Whether or not that's the real reason is something only Tesla can answer, but considering the 60D was pulled in relative silence, we probably won't hear Tesla talk too much about it from here on out. Meanwhile, the company has its sights set on the future, with Elon Musk recently announcing that Tesla and SolarCity are aiming for an October 28 reveal of their new solar roof. We'll have more information on that particular team up as it's released, so stay tuned.
