iOS 11.1.2 release fixes iPhone X cold screen issue

Apple has released iOS 11.1.2, promising to address the iPhone X cold screen issue where owners of the flagship smartphone reported their touchscreens weren't responding as expected. The issue, which first began surfacing earlier this month, was limited to colder locations. iPhone X owners found that the multitouch OLED screen on the smartphone would be sluggish to respond to taps or swipes, or simply stop responding altogether.

Even OnePlus knows the OnePlus 5T’s face unlock isn’t as secure as iPhone X

Even OnePlus knows the OnePlus 5T’s face unlock isn’t as secure as iPhone X

The OnePlus 5T was announced earlier today, and just like another certain flagship device, it'll have users unlocking their phones with facial recognition. This seems to be the direction the industry is headed, and so far, the iPhone X gives us our best example of the technology through Face ID. Though the OnePlus 5T also uses facial recognition as a marquee feature, it seems that its creators know that it won't be as accurate as it needs to be before it's the only option for verification.

Moment for iPhone X photo case, lenses make the camera shine

Moment for iPhone X photo case, lenses make the camera shine

An entire niche market of clip-on lenses grew out of the middling camera capabilities of smartphones past. With dual cameras, wide angle lenses, and advanced camera sensors, you’d think that market has become redundant. Not so, if you ask Moment, who has given that market a distinct flair with the Moment 2.0 Kickstarter earlier this year. Now it has announced a new photo case and new lens set made especially for the iPhone X, raising the already high photography bar even higher.

iPhone X Face ID fooled by mom’s 10 year old son

iPhone X Face ID fooled by mom’s 10 year old son

The iPhone X’s new all-screen display and even its contentious notch have been sidelined by one new feature that may make its way into future iPhones and iPads. The attention, not to mention criticism, given to the phone’s Face ID biometric security isn’t exactly surprising. Humans have a tendency to be skeptical of new things, especially when new things initially promised the world in terms of security. And now they may have even more reason to be extra dubious of Face ID after a woman’s iPhone X was unlocked again and again by her 10 year old son.

Galaxy S9 announcement to happen early, face recognition tipped

Galaxy S9 announcement to happen early, face recognition tipped

Samsung has so far pushed its product announcements and launches earlier and earlier after the strategy seemed to work wonders for the Galaxy S7. But when is early really too early? When it happens near the start of the year, perhaps. That seems to be the growing expectation of a Galaxy S9 announcement taking place before MWC, perhaps even at CES. This, however, may backfire if the smartphone does include a feature found in the iPhone X, which just started shipping to buyers last week.

3 iPhone X facts that made me #TeamNotch

3 iPhone X facts that made me #TeamNotch

Not since Apple ditched the headphone jack has a Cupertino design decision been so controversial as the iPhone X's notch. The unusually-shaped OLED screen on the flagship smartphone is still dividing opinion, months after we saw it for the first time. After living with the iPhone X for a few weeks, however, I've been swayed over to #TeamNotch for a few key reasons.

Your iPhone X is about to wirelessly charge faster

Your iPhone X is about to wirelessly charge faster

Wireless iPhone charging is about to narrow the performance gap with wired charging, with iOS 11.2 set to speed up the tech on the iPhone X and iPhone 8. The 2017 iPhone line-up was Apple's first attempt at wireless charging in its smartphones, opting for the Qi standard. However, while convenient, it did have some drawbacks compared to plugging in an old-fashioned Lighting cable.

iPhone 2018 extends the notch to 3-phone lineup

Apple's 2018 iPhone lineup may throw you for a loop. At least, that's if the company releases the devices KGI predicts. This non-official, predicted lineup includes three iPhone models - all three with the notch of the iPhone X. These three models won't fit the profile of the lineup currently on display at Apple - they'll switch the premium crown from 1 to 2.

iPhone X notch remover tackles Apple’s big controversy

Ever since the iPhone X was first revealed, the now-famous "notch" at the top of the display has become the topic of much debate. While some people don't mind its presence, others seem to be quite bothered by it. If you belong to the latter group of people, you can do something about it thanks to a new app that's now available on the App Store.

Some iPhone X reported to have crackling, buzzing from earpiece

The recent slew of issues, be it hardware or software, coming from brand new smartphone models might have some wondering if quality control is going downhill or if users have just become too meticulous about their devices. And since some of these involve really expensive smartphones, the expectations of perfection are even higher. The latest to join the list of complaints is, unsurprisingly, the iPhone X, which is now reported by some owners to exhibit either crackling or buzzing audio coming from the phone’s earpiece speaker at high volumes.

iPhone X Face ID beaten with 3D-printed mask

iPhone X Face ID beaten with 3D-printed mask

With its new flagship iPhone X, Apple has touted just secure the device's Face ID technology is, and for the most part it's been a hit, with relatively few reports of the system not working properly or letting the wrong person unlock the phone. The security researchers at Bkav, however, have gone to great lengths to thwart the facial recognition technology, to see what it would take. Turns out they've found success using a strange-looking 3D-printed mask.

Some iPhone X displays have developed a bright green line

Some iPhone X displays have developed a bright green line

Some iPhone X owners are reporting that a bright green line has developed on their handset's display. The line is terribly thick on some phones, though very slim on others, typically running vertically from top to bottom on either the right or left side. Restarting the phone doesn't get rid of the green line, according to affected users, who say that Apple is replacing the devices with new units.
