Sylvania G Netbook MESO Aiming For $299 Tag

Sylvania, who are best known currently for their TVs at Walmart, are planning a new netbook using Intel's Atom processor.  The G Netbook MESO will use the 1.6GHz single-core Atom, an 80GB hard-drive, up to 4hrs battery life and an 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600 LCD display with LED backlighting.  Four color versions will be available - black, white, yellow and pink – with the black having 512MB of RAM and the others 1GB.

Sylvania are apparently aiming for a $299 price point, but that is not yet confirmed.  Neither, too, do we know whether Walmart will be carrying the netbook.  The G Netbook MESA will run either Windows XP Home or Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

The company already sells a netbook using VIA technology: TigerDirect sell a (different) G Netbook, based on VIA's previous NanoBook reference design.  $329 gets you a 1.2GHz C7-M VIA processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 30GB hard-drive, webcam, 7-inch 800 x 480 display and WiFi b/g.
