Super Smash Bros Ultimate Gets A Special Edition Pro Controller

Super Smash Bros fans will likely tell you that the controller you use is everything. While we count on many of them using the GameCube controller once Super Smash Bros Ultimate releases in December, Nintendo revealed today that it has something special planned for those of us who like the Switch Pro Controller. We're getting a special Smash Bros-themed Pro Controller with this release, and there will be a couple of ways to buy one.

The controller was revealed on the official Smash Bros site earlier today. The black, white, and gray controller doesn't have a lot of flair to it, but it does feature the Super Smash Bros emblem front and center. Other than that and its white grips, we're looking at what is essentially the standard Switch Pro Controller.

Officially dubbed the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Edition Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (which is quite the mouthful), this will be available both as a standalone product and in a bundle. In that bundle, you'll also get the special edition version of the game, which appears to come with a steelbook case. Other details about the special edition haven't been revealed yet.

That bundle is currently up for pre-order from Best Buy, which gives it a price of $139.99. The standalone controller doesn't have a price just yet, but it's probably safe to assume that it'll land at the typical $70 Nintendo usually charges for Pro Controllers. Then again, it might not be a bad idea to expect Nintendo to charge a little extra for this, considering its designation as a special edition product.

Of course, the purists out there will always be able to use the GameCube controller with Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which will be available separately. While the GameCube controller doesn't have a release date yet, Nintendo says that the Smash Bros Pro Controller will be available on December 7, the same day the game launches. We'll have more details on pricing and that special edition bundle once Nintendo shares it, so stay tuned for more.
