Sony's next Xperia tablet rumored for 4K, 6GB RAM

Sony is no stranger to CES, and tends to make the event their forum for announcing new products. Last year, we saw a bevy of awesome new cameras and a still-in-progress SmartBand tracker. Another thing Sony does well is high-end devices and products. The latest rumor has Sony going absolutely off on tablets, bringing a massive screen capable of 4K resolution. The rumored spec sheet is equally insane, boasting more RAM than you've ever heard of on a mobile device.

We'll say this from the jump: what you're about to read is highly unlikely to happen, and comes via a suspect source. At the same time, it's Sony, and they do some pretty amazing things. They're also increasing their focus on mobile, so this all could come to pass, even if not at CES. Ready? Here we go!

According to PadNews, Sony is preparing to bring a tablet to market that has a 12.96-inch screen boasting a 3840 x 2400 resolution. There is also said to be 6GB RAM under the hood (not a typo), a Snapdragon 810 processor, 64GB memory, and massive 12,100mAh battery.

It's also only 8.6mm thick.

Why would you believe this? It's Sony, and they've got no problem with premium. Why would you doubt it? Read the above paragraph again. Those specs are beyond the scope of what anyone else is doing for mobile right now.

The listed specs also aren't complete; they don't mention a GPU or camera megapixel count.

The post does refer to it as the Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra, suggesting it's the powerhouse in the Xperia Z lineup. We'll probably hear more about Sony's ambitions at CES in January, and we'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one.
