Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 hands-on: Android and high-res audio
This week the next Sony Walkman has been introduced, bringing both Android and a 128GB bit of internal storage to the table. You also have a microSD card slot to expand your internal storage by another 128GB if you wish. You'll also have High-resolution Audio playback and compatibility with S-Master HX Digital Amplifier compatibility. DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), ClearAudio+, and Clear Bass are also inside. With Equalizer abilities and VPT onboard, you're going to have a clear audio experience, that's for certain.
This newest Walkman will work with many different types of files. MP3, WMA1, FLAC (192KHz/24bit), Linear PCM (192KHz/24bit), WAV (192KHz/24bit), AAC-LC2, HE-AAC, Apple Lossless (192KHz/24bit), AIFF (192KHz/24bit), and DSD (2.8MHz, 5.6MHz) are included.
The battery inside will last you 60-hours according to Sony, just so long as you're playing MP3s. Hi-Res Audio will last you 33hrs (that's FLAC). Charging the device will take you around 4.5-hours.
Up front you've got a 4-inch 854 x 480 pixel display with Triluminous technology. Inside you'll connect with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n/a), and Bluetooth (A2DP/AVRCP/OPP/HID/SPP) with supported codec SBC/LDAC.
We'll know more about sound quality once we get the device in for review. For now we can safely suggest that you're going to be impressed. This device blasts the spectrum.
This device will be released in Europe this Spring and – we must assume – the USA later this year. Only the Euro release has been confirmed, and no pricing is yet available.
