Sony VAIO JS-series All-in-One Desktop PCs

Sony has announced its latest series of All-in-One VAIO desktop PCs, the JS-series, which the company envisages being used in kitchens and dens.  Based on a 3.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor with 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 7,200rpm hard-drive and a 20.1-inch LCD display, the JS-series will have optional Blu-ray.

Sony have combined a 45nm desktop CPU with notebook components, to provide the best balance of size and performance.  The display is a 1680 x 1050 XBRITE HiColor TFT and Sony include a wired low-profile keyboard and mouse that can sit under the screen section when not in use.  Connectivity includes gigabit ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth with A2DP support and a modem; ports include five USB, audio/mic inputs, iLink Firewire, S/PDIF output and a headphone socket.

A 1.3-megapixel webcam with microphone is built in above the screen, for video chatting.  The VAIO JS-series will be available this fall, priced between $999 (with a DVD-RW drive) and $1,449 (with a read-only Blu-ray drive).  It will be available in black, silver or pink; all versions are Energy Star certified.
