Sony Action Cam Mini reignites POV war

This morning in Berlin, Sony has revealed their next super tiny camera, bringing the heat with model HDR-AZ1. This device is also known as the Sony Action Cam Mini, coming with a body that's 30% smaller than its Sony-made predecessors. This device works with a new Live View Remote accessory, Live Stream with USTREAM, and a variety of new action mounts.

The Sony HDR-AZ1 Action Cam Mini works with full HD video (1080p), 120 fps frame rate video shooting for ultra slow motion action, and XAVC S codec for data rates at 50 mbps – that's extra detail for your most important action video.

This device works with a ZEISS lens, back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, and the newest in new BIONZ X processor technology under the hood. With this combination comes SteadyShot stabilization technology and a 170° field of view.

One package of the Sony Action Cam Mini includes a new Live View Remote (RM-LVR2V). This device attaches to your wrist, features an LCD display with adjustable brightness for footage review, and works with internal GPS, adding GPS data to your video when used with the Action Cam Mini.

This camera works with a VCT-BPM1 Backpack Mount, a BLT-CHM1 clip-on mount for your baseball cap, a VCT-QHM football helmet mount, a NP-BY1 Rechargeable Battery Pack, and a combination USB charger and battery "ACC-TRDCY Accessory Kit". The whole lot should be available right around the same time as the camera itself.

The Sony Action Cam Mini HDR-AZ1 will be arriving this October in two separate packages. Sony suggests that the basic model will be sold "for about $250" and will include a waterproof case. There'll also be an "Action Cam HDR-AZ1VR bundle" which includes the RM-LVR2V Live View Remote, this bundle aiming at a price point around $350 USD.
