SEGA Genesis Mini pre-orders kickoff with 10 more titles revealed

The mini retro console craze apparently hasn’t died just yet. The latest to jump on that train is SEGA who announced last month that it was making a Genesis Mini launching later this year. Like other console makers before it, like Nintendo and Sony, it’s revealing the console’s titles in waves of ten. Now it has dumped the second batch of classic titles along with the green light for pre-ordering the mini console today.

The SEGA Genesis Mini, which SEGA reveals will be roughly 55% the size of the original Model 1 that debuted in the late 80s, will launch with 40 games inside its small body. With this new announcement, 10 titles have been revealed, including another game about everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog:

1. Earthworm Jim
2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
3. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
4. World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
5. Contra: Hard Corps
6. Streets of Rage 2
7. Thunder Force III
8. Super Fantasy Zone
9. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
10. Landstalker

These join the first 10 that were revealed when the console was announced:

11. Ecco the Dolphin
12. Castlevania: Bloodlines
13. Space Harrier II
14. Shining Force
15. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
16. ToeJam & Earl
17. Comix Zone
18. Sonic the Hedgehog
19. Altered Beast
20. Gunstar Heroes

SEGA hasn’t hinted whether the next batch will be revealed next month, but with five months left before it launches, it has plenty of time to drop those next 20 games. You don’t have to wait that long, though, if you want to reserve yours now. Pre-orders are now up on Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and the like.

The $79.99 SEGA Genesis Mini will come with two replica three-button USB Genesis controllers, one HDMI cable, one USB to micro-USB power cable, and, for North American buyers, a power adapter. SEGA warns that the original Genesis controllers won’t work with the mini console, but only time will tell if avid fans and modders will have anything to say about that.
