Samsung unveils plan to launch smartphone with curved display next month
The smartphone market will be seeing a curved handset soon, with Samsung announcing plans to take the wraps of a smartphone with a curved display next month. The announcement was made a bit ago by the Korean company's head of strategic marketing in its mobile business D.J. Lee, who just revealed the information at a Galaxy Note 3 launch event in Seoul.
Details are sparse at the moment, but according to Samsung, "We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October." This won't be the first time we've seen a handset with such a display from the maker, however, with Samsung having shown off a prototype (featured above) of such a device back in January.
This follows soon after a rumor surfaced claiming that Samsung would be introducing a variation of the Galaxy Note 3 with a curved display, with that particular tip indicating that it could arrive as early as October, aligning with what Samsung has just revealed. Though details were sparse, it was said the handset would have a flexible OLED display and would be limited in production.
In the case of the prototypes Samsung showed off, the display wrapped around the edge of the device, and when used in conjunction with AMOLED technology, could reasonably be assumed to function as a ticker of sorts along the side of the phone. This would follow in line with the curved displays Samsung has already introduced on some of its televisions, such as the curved OLED TV that arrived in the US last month.
