Samsung's first QLED TV up close: intense color, versatile hardware

This week Samsung showed off their newest TV display technology with their first QLED television. This TV is able to roll with HDR with 1500 to 2000 nits of brightness, and optimized with reflection-stopping technology to get deepest blacks. This TV will be one of a collection of QLED televisions that'll be released this year by Samsung for the high-end TV market, ready to roll with a versatile mount system so it'll look magnificent in a wide variety of positions.

"[These are] TVs that are works of art," said Tim Baxter, President and COO of Samsung Electronics America, "just as beautiful turned off as they are turned on." To do this, they're working with a no-gap mount and a new cable. Samsung's design aesthetic with the first QLED TV sets will work with a single "nearly invisible" cable – white and super-thin.

Based on the first glimpse we've seen of this first QLED TV set, it's certainly a top contender for the most intense TV we've ever seen. Color that's deep, bright, and uninterrupted by glare. I cannot wait to use this TV to watch the original Star Wars trilogy in 4K.

This first TV set will be able to be mounted on several different sorts of mounts. One of these is a no-gap mount that sits inside a picture frame – as you'll see here. This is just one of a wide collection of QLED TVs that'll be available inside the year 2017. Given the vast size of this first set and the advanced nature of the technology, I can't imagine it's going to be cheap.

Samsung is focusing on consumer demand for premium large-screen TVs this year. They've made this clear in their presentation at CES 2017, suggesting that every TV released by Samsung in the year 2017 would be a smart TV. To this point, Samsung has revealed a new Smart TV remote for Android and iOS devices, and will reveal additional QLED televisions for the market throughout the rest of this year (and into the future). UPDATE: The first QLED TV will be available in February of 2018.

Samsung is also ready to release Samsung TV+ (or Samsung TV Plus, if you prefer) to sell movies and TV shows to users on Samsung devices, as well. This store will focus on 4K content and will be available to Samsung devices soon.
