Robo kitty is Hasbro's first robot companion for seniors

Hasbro has a new line of life-like robotic companion pets designed for seniors, and though it seems depressing at first, the robo pets could help fill a void in cases where living pets aren't appropriate. The pets are designed to provide a sense of companionship, but come without some of the other aspects of pet ownership: food and care costs, messy litter boxes, and other things.

The robotic companion pets are offered under the company's new Joy For All product lineup, and it promises a maintenance-free variety of pet ownership in a relatively realistic form. First in the product line is a pet cat, which is offered in three colors and packed with sensors for interaction with people.

The robotic cats feature realistic meows and purring, as well as soft fur for petting and cat-like motions. The sensors allow the cat to interact with its owner when he or she touches it or moves. Petting the cat's cheek, for example, will cause it to nuzzle into one's hand. Rub its belly, and it will roll onto its back.

Once you stop interacting with the cat, it'll eventually fall asleep, only to wake back up after you pet it again. The device runs off four 1.5v alkaline batteries, and is available in Silver, Creamy White, and Orange Tabby colors. Price sits at $99.99 USD.
