Porsche introduces new navigation system for classic sports cars

Porsche has created a new navigation system for its classic cars. Now, vintage edition Porsche sports cars will be able to upgrade their dashboard with this new navigation radio. It is designed to fit in the radio slot of Porsche's classic cars. The navigation radio has a bit of a retro feel to it, made to fit a vintage dashboard seamlessly, creating an unobtrusive use of navigation technology in a classic car.

The panel offers traditional radio reception and navigation features. The retro-styled panel houses a 3.5 inch touchscreen. The screen is used for navigation and acts as an infotainment system hub. So using the smart phone connection via Bluetooth, you can stream your favorite playlist as you go for a drive in your vintage sports car. It also features a built-in microphone and an external microphone. This system doesn't offer any technology that we haven't seen before, but it brings capabilities that were once only available in the newest model cars to Porsche's vintage collector cars. Now you can take a hands free call over Bluetooth using the navigation radio in a car made sixty years ago.

As for navigation, the country-specific maps are retrieved from a microSD card. There is no need to worry about construction detours as the maps are updated regularly. The display offers 2D and 3D display choices.

Right now the Porsche navigation radio is available in Germany for 1,184 euros. There is no word when it will expand availability into other markets. Until then, American classic car collectors will have to wait.
