Nintendo Switch Lite flip cover finally heads west

In the lead-up to the launch of the Switch Lite, Nintendo debuted a first-part flip cover for the device. The flip cover is a fairly basic product, as it serves to protect the front and back of the console when it's not in use. There was just one problem: At the time, Nintendo only confirmed the flip cover for Japan.

Now, some months later, Nintendo has remedied that particular oversight, announcing that the flip cover will launch here in the US. It'll be available in a package that includes a screen protector as well, which should hopefully do something to protect the Switch Lite's display from scratches.

It seems that Nintendo isn't making any changes to the flip cover for this western launch – in fact, the promotional image Nintendo used in today's announcement is the exact same one it used when it confirmed the flip cover for Japan. So, don't expect any massive changes to design when it launches here in the US.

The company says that the Nintendo Switch Lite Flip Cover & Screen Protector – as the package is officially called – will launch next month as an exclusive for Nintendo's online store. It'll release there on December 8th before heading to retail stores in early 2020.

The package will run $39.99, which is a little on expensive side considering what you get. Still, if you know that your Switch Lite is going to go through some abuse, it might be worth shelling out for one nonetheless, as any repairs you'd need to make to the body or the display will definitely come in at more than $40.
