Nikon reveals three new NIKKOR lenses for pros and enthusiasts

Three new lenses have been revealed this morning by the folks at NIKKOR, including an evolution of a classic NIKKOR lens with the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR. This lens is the newest in a line of lenses that includes the 24-70mm f/2.8, a lens you may well have stashed in your Nikon bag right this minute. The other two lenses include a super-telephoto zoom AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR as well as an f/1.8 fixed focal length lens by the name of AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED.

The original 24-70mm f/2.8 has been given an upgrade to the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR. This new lens works with Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization technology. The AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR also works with this technology, this time in a super-telephoto zoom model for enthusiast FX and DX-format photographers.

The AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR works with four stops of image stabilization as well as a Tripod Mode. This Tripod Mode apparently "banishes blur" for landscape shots. The AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR also works with Nikon's Electromagnetic Aperture control, giving photographers consistent exposure during high speed bursts.

The AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR works with its own Sport Mode, enabling users to capturing "vibrant, sharp images of distant subjects at high frame rates or when panning with fast-moving action." This unit also has Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology to quickly and quietly focus in.

With the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED, users will be bumping up the capabilities of their Nikon high-resolution DSLRs. This lens is a fast wide-angle prime lens, made for everything from environmental portraits to food photos.

The AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR will be available in late August for a suggested retail price of $2399.95. The AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR will be available in mid-September for the SRP $1399.95. The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED will be available in mid-September for the SRP of 749.95 USD.
