Nexus 6 hits the FCC, Nexus Player Gamepad now available

Ever since Google messed up the FCC approval for the Nexus Player, the tech world seems to have gotten a slight obsession about monitoring the arrival of Nexus devices at the government agency. Those who are rooting for the phablet instead of the Nexus 9 tablet can probably now breathe a sigh of relief as the Nexus 6 has finally been added to the FCC's listings, clearing the way for the smartphone's pre-order, which, barring any last minute hiccup, should happen on the 29th.

The joy over the pre-order availability of Google's first official Android TV device was short-lived when the Nexus Player was immediately noted to be out of stock. Rather than inventory issues, it was its lack of FCC approval that was to blame. Whether that was intentional to prevent leakage, we will never know. Suffice it to say, Google moved rather quickly and fixed that situation over the weekend and the Nexus Player has been back ever since. For pre-order of course. Shipping doesn't happen until next month.

The Nexus 6 is now the latest, and the last, Nexus device to reach the halls of the FCC. Unlike the Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player, the smartphone was already announced to start its pre-order much later. Whether or not FCC certification is the reason for that delay is again something we might never become privy to. Needless to say, the Nexus 6 is already there so there should be no more legal impediments to its arriving on Google Play Store this week.

The FCC entries aren't particularly revealing, but that's OK since Google has practically given everything you might need to know about the Nexus 6. It borrows the design language of the new Moto X but bumps up the specs, with a 5.9-inch 2560x1440 QHD screen, a 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, a 3,220 mAh battery with Turbo Charging, and a 13 megapixel rear camera with an f2.0 aperture lens, optical image stabilization and dual LED flash.

Speaking of the Nexus Player, the final missing piece of that puzzle is also now in place. The optional Gamepad controller, which becomes necessary if you ever want to use the Nexus Player for some serious console-like gaming, is now up for pre-order. The product page notes that you can pair up to four of these to a single Nexus Player for some group fun. Do note, however, that this costs $39.99 each, which might limit how many you might be able to purchase in one go.
