Motorola G7 Brings Back Big Battery Phone In 2019
This week the folks at Motorola had a bit of a spill in the form of multiple sorts of G7. That's the company's most popular smartphone line – or at least it was, back when the original Moto G was the company's first mega-hit in the low-to-midrange market for smartphones. Back when the original Moto G was both extremely cheap and reasonably powerful – and it didn't look half bad, either.
In the year 2019, it would seem that Motorola's gearing up for a far more focused approach to smartphones than they've had in the past several seasons. The Motorola G line – in this case the Moto G7 – will be one of the very few smartphones Motorola will release inside 2019. Within that name, Moto G7, the company is likely set to release four different iterations.
• Moto G7 Power
• Moto G7
• Moto G7 Plus
• Moto G7 Play
From a set of leaks that've come down overnight, it seems that we've got the massive numbers behind the device with the POWER in its name. The Power stands for battery size – and in this case, it's 5000mAh large. Let's compare that to some other popular phones out right now:Battery Size for Popular Phones of 2018:
• iPhone Xs: 2,659mAh
• LG G7: 3,000mAh
• Samsung Galaxy S9: 3,000mAh
• Google Pixel 3 XL: 3,430mAh
• Samsung Galaxy Note 9: 4,000mAh
• Huawei P20 Pro: 4,000mAh
Battery size doesn't always correlate perfectly with phone up-time, but it is pretty important. When it comes to a Moto G smartphone, the giant battery should mean a really, really large amount of up-time. It's rumored that the Moto G7 Power has a 6.2-inch HD+ display, likely IPS LCD. That's good news for battery life, too. It's big, but it's not super sharp – and it's an LCD, not OLED – that's usually a good sign for longer battery life too.
We're expecting a 12MP camera on the back with a f/2.0 aperture and a front-facing 8MP camera with f/2.2 aperture. Both should be adequate. Not magical, but adequate.
Last year the Moto G6 was revealed in April. We've no reason to expect that the Moto G7 will be revealed any earlier than April – but you never know! Almost without a doubt, we'll end up seeing the full Moto G7 lineup with release dates inside the first half of the year for 2019.
