MIRROR brings a gym to your home through a looking glass

We've seen not a few smart mirrors around the Internet lately. Some of them, like Samsung's Mirror Display, are designed for business customers. Many come as DIY projects for the brave of heart. Few, however, were made for consumers and even fewer are designed to keep you healthy. A new startup named MIRROR is aiming to change that with its eponymous first product, a one-way smart mirror that takes away any excuse not to go to the gym by bringing the gym to you instead.

If you look at it from a purely technical point of view, the MIRROR simply aggregates technologies we've seen before and have already existed for some time now. Smart mirrors, video chats, leaderboards, health monitors, etc. are almost staples of today's hi-tech world. MIRROR, however, combines them in such a way that you will feel like you're living in the future. Or at least watching a concept video for technology yet to come.

Granted, MIRROR is designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to keep you fit and healthy. It gives users access not only to exercise videos on-demand but even live instructors who can give you real-time feedback and encouragement. And if you connect your fitness trackers to it, it can give you and your instructor insight into your current body conditions.

Of course, it also has the staples of any connected smart display, like competing with friends through leaderboards and personalized programs based on your goals and preferences. And, yes, you can even use it to take a selfie.

As you might have guessed, it doesn't come cheap. The MIRROR alone costs $1,495 but it's useless without content. That comes via a $39 monthly subscription. That should probably be more than enough incentive to get you into your gear, especially when you don't have to walk or drive to the gym anymore.
