Microsoft wants more Xbox games to come with free PC copies

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Xbox One exclusive title Quantum Break would be getting a PC release. This was a pretty big deal, especially since the game is due out in April, and the PC version would be making its debut on the very same day as on the Xbox One. But that wasn't the most interesting part of the announcement.

When the PC version of the game was announced, Remedy Games dropped a huge bombshell on the gaming community. If you purchase a digital copy of the game for the Xbox One, you'll automatically be receiving a copy of it for the PC. Not only that, but save files will be cross-compatible as well. This makes Quantum Break one of the first games to get cross-buy and cross-save functionality on the Xbox One/PC. And it's nothing but good news for gamers.

Of course, just getting one title with these features is nice, but now that we've seen that it's a possibility, we're going to want to start seeing this happen with other games. And Microsoft's Phil Spencer has now confirmed that this won't be the last time we see it. In fact, they're planning to make this a "platform feature." That would imply that they're planning on making this happen for a good deal of games moving forward.

This is one of those moments where it feels like gaming is really moving forward. It might not be as game-changing as when we finally got online multiplayer functionality for our console games. But to be able to purchase a game for a console, and then be able to also play it on your PC? That's something that gamers everywhere have been clamoring for, since the first games were available on both a console, and a PC. After all, why would you want to buy the same game twice, just because you got a new PC, and want to play it on there?
