Mercedes CLA Gets Facelift Ahead Of NY Auto Show
Mercedes-Benz is giving its four-door coupe a revamp, with the 2017 CLA and Mercedes-AMG CLA45 both receiving a facelift in time for the New York International Auto Show 2016 next week. The CLA250 now has a tweaked front and rear bumper, described by the German automaker as more aggressive than the older car, though keeps the 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter engine good for 208 HP and 258 lb-ft. of torque.
That's enough for a 0-60 mph run in 6.9 seconds – you can knock a tenth of a second off that if you opt for the CLA250 4MATIC with its all-wheel drive – and a top speed of 130 mph.
The facelifted CLA also gets a new paint option, Lunar Blue, and six different wheel designs to pick between.
Safety features include Active Brake Assist as standard, and the CLA keeps its ambient lighting inside. Optional LED high-performance headlamps are available, with a color temperature more in-keeping with daylight, as is hands-free access to the trunk that's included as part of the Premium Package.
Inside, the 8-inch display is now given a slimmer housing, with a glass cover, while the instruments get red detailing. New seat colors are on offer, and there are new trim finishes too, including sail-look, matt black ash wood, black DINAMICA microfiber trim, and aluminum with honeycomb grain.
CarPlay and Android Auto remain options with the Smartphone Integration Package.
As for the Mercedes-AMG CLA45, that keeps its 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine tuned for 375 horsepower and 350 lb-ft. of torque, and its 4.1 second 0-60 mph time. Top speed is still limited to 155 mph.
The AMG front bumper gets a new, A-wing design with matte titanium grey and high-gloss black flics, while at the back there's a new lid spoiler and redesigned diffuser. An AMG Aerodynamics package changes up those features with a different design.
Two new wheel designs have been added, with matte black or titanium grey finish, on the optional 19 x 8-inch AMG cross-spoke wheels with 235/35 R 19 tires.
Inside there's more matte paint used, along with red contrast stitching, plus a new steering wheel on the options list.
Unfortunately, and presumably for some slight we can't remember making, Mercedes-AMG still refuses to bring the comely CLA station wagon to the US. Instead, we'll just have to marvel at its sexy wagonness from afar, or indeed in photos.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 and the 2017 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 will get their first official outing in New York next week, and we'll be there to bring you back live coverage in our full SlashGear Cars hub. They'll arrive in US dealerships come Q3 2016.
