Marvel reveals teaser for The Punisher on Netflix

We've known for over a year now that Netflix and Marvel would continue to expand their superhero TV universe by giving The Punisher his own series following his introduction in season two of Daredevil. Now that The Defenders, the mash-up series that includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, is finally airing on the streaming network, the first teaser for The Punisher has been revealed.

The clip makes it clear that anti-hero Frank Castle — played by actor Jon Bernthal — is back to seek revenge for his family and clean up the streets of New York with his many, many guns. Along with the reflective voice-over, we see Castle taking a sledgehammer to a concrete floor, only to walk away and reveal the Punisher's iconic skull emblem.

Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher was one of the highlights of Daredevil's seconds season, and since he was so popular among fans and critics, Netflix and Marvel quickly agreed to give the character his own series. Actress Deborah Ann Woll will be reprising her role as Karen Page, while new cast members include Daniel Weber, Jason R Moore, Paul Schulze, Jamie Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson.

While the teaser has already made its way to YouTube, Marvel fans can find it hidden after The Defenders' final credits. There's still no word on The Punisher's official premiere date, but Netflix is rumored to debut it before the end of the year.
