Lenovo S10e & S9e netbooks with QuickStart available end of November

Lenovo Europe have announced the availability of the IdeaPad S10e and S9e, the Instant On versions of its existing netbook range.  While the hardware of both netbooks is the same as the current models – a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, up to 1.5GB of RAM, 8.9- or 10-inch display, and between 4GB of SSD storage to 160GB of hard-drive storage – the key difference is the Lenovo QuickStart functionality provided by DeviceVM's SplashTop Linux OS.

QuickStart will offer access to web browsing, multimedia, video conferencing using the integrated webcam and photo slideshows "within seconds", and without having to boot into the full OS.  Another difference is the choice of OS on offer: as well as Windows XP Home, buyers can specify XP Pro or Novell SLED 10 Linux.

WiFi and an ExpressCard 34 slot are standard, while Bluetooth and 3.5G WWAN are optional.  Prices for the new netbooks start from £299 ($460), and they will be available from the end of November.
