LEGO Ship in a Bottle is a minimalistic masterpiece

The folks behind the LEGO Ideas set Ship in a Bottle flipped lego conventions on their head when they made the Leviathan. That's the name of the ship, and the bottle comes with, too. Fan creator Jake Sadovich of Idaho created the original, and LEGO brought it to life. This set's coming to stores very soon.

The ship and the bottle and the stand for both the ship and the bottle are made with standard LEGO pieces. The same goes for the cork. This LEGO set is not beautiful only because of its aesthetics. It's a masterpiece because of the inventiveness of the creator.

LEGO doesn't normally release products like this. Normally they'll release sets made for Minifigures, or sets on holidays that make a tiny bunny rabbit or Santa Clause. This set throws LEGO's playbook out the window and creates something on a whole different scale.

Like other LEGO Ideas sets, this Ship in a Bottle contains features not included in other LEGO sets. That means extra information from the LEGO designers that put the finishing touches on this set as well as words from Sadovich. That also means a set of new stickers for pieces, a few rare pieces, and a new LEGO element that's never existed before now: a new-for-February 2018 wax-seal-style element.

For those LEGO-loving SlashGear readers that swear you've seen a ship in a bottle in the LEGO universe before, you're right! There's a lovely ship in a bottle piece included in the MetalBeard's Sea Cow LEGO set! See that bottle below, straight out of the MetalBeard's Sea Cow review we've got from what seems like a lifetime ago. And look out for the $70 Ship in a Bottle coming this February.
