Jolla Sailfish smartphone to launch November 27

Jolla has been talking up its Sailfish OS and smartphone running the OS for a while. We know the operating system will be able to run applications made for Android devices. We learned earlier this week that Jolla had chosen the Yandex.Store to be the official app store for all of its smartphones.

Jolla has announced the official ship date for the Sailfish device will be November 27 in Finland. The smartphone will be offered by Finnish carrier DNA via the company's pop-up shop in Helsinki. Pricing was previously tipped to be around $513 in the US for a SIM free and unlocked device. There is no word on pricing at DNA at this time.

Back in September, Jolla unveiled the hardware details for its first Sailfish smartphone. The smartphone features a 4.5-inch qHD resolution screen with native 960 x 540 resolution. It features a 2100 mAh internal battery that is user replicable. The rear camera has 8-megapixel resolution and features autofocus and LED flash. The Sailfish handset also has a 2-megapixel front camera.

Internal storage is 16GB and the smartphone has a microSD card slot for storage expansion. The brain of the smartphone is a QUALCOMM Snapdragon dual-core 1.4GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. This is the first time a firm launch date has been offered, Jolla previously said the device would ship by the end of 2013.
