Jaybird Reign lands in the Go-Zone on October 26

The world is not short of fitness wearables, and while Jaybird's Reign managed to impress us back at CES 2014 in January, it's only this month that the wrist-worn wearable is finally hitting shelves. Packing the ability to track Heart Rate Variability (HRV) – which Jaybird says gives results 99-percent accurate to those you'd get from a medical EKG – the Reign introduces a new metric dubbed "Go-Score" which, rather than tracking historic performance, claims to actually tell you how ready for activity your body is.

Of course, there's also the usual tracking support, for things like walking, running, cycling, and swimming.

Combined, Jaybird says the Reign can deliver a far more useful insight in fitness: giving hints when wearers could potentially increase their healthy activity, or putting the electronic equivalent of a cautioning hand on your shoulder if you're over-exerting yourself.

There's also sleep tracking, and the Reign app – connected via Bluetooth LE – will take into account how much rest wearers are getting when it figures out an overall healthy-living score, called the "Go-Zone".

Battery life is around five days, with a full charge said to take around two hours. The Reign pod itself comes with a silicone and brushed metal band in the box, as well as two silicone sports bands, and an ankle strap for cyclists.

Bands will be offered in black, white, and green.

The Jaybird Reign will go on sale October 26th, initially online and at Best Buy, priced at $199. Although an Android app is expected to drop in December, initially the Reign will be iOS-only.
