Jaguar Land Rover recalls cars after being called out on Chinese TV

Last month, Jaguar Land Rover recalled 104,000 or so cars in the United States over problems with the lights and brakes. Those aren't the only vehicles that have been having problems, however, and now the auto maker has recalled in excess of 36,000 cars located in China over a potential problem with the gearbox. The recall came after the company was called out on Chinese state television over the problem. The auto maker has apologized for the problem, and has added a perk on top of the recall servicing for those who are affected.

A total of 36,451 Range Rover Evoque SUVs will be recalled in China due to potential problems that could surface with their gearboxes, the auto maker announced on Sina Weibo. Said Jaguar Land Rover, "We will carry out a recall initiative and give consumers a deep apology." The gearbox warranty is also being extended to 7 year or 150,000 miles as part of this.

The recall came after CCTV, a Chinese state broadcaster, called out the auto maker on the World Consumer Rights Day (March 15), which commonly zeros in on foreign companies and whatever complaints there might be about them. This likewise comes at a time when China is cracking down on high pricing in the auto industry in the nation.

This follows a high number of automotive recalls that have taken place this year, though most of them have concerned models located in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Chrysler is arguably leading the pack so far in 2015, but we've also seen some high recalls from Toyota and Honda, among others, as well. Check out the timeline below for more!
