iPhone 7's most interesting case isn't made by Apple

This week the folks at Mophie have revealed their latest in a long line of battery cases for the iPhone. This iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus set of cases goes by the name Mophie Hold Force. It's called Hold Force because it works with a set of magnets that allow it to turn the iPhone into what they call a "modular, all-purpose devic with a variety of protection, storage, and charging solutions."

Unlike many previous Mophie cases, this one doesn't have the battery built in. Instead, users will purchase a $39.95 base case with magnetic plates embedded in its back. This case is relatively small, non-intrusive, and provides a bit of protection around the edges of the device.

The base case connects to the rest of the Mophie Hold Force accessory collection. This collection will be available when the Hold Force brand launches – this month at Mophie online and at Best Buy stores everywhere.

• Hold Force powerstation plus mini; 4,000mAh rechargeable battery and integrated switch-tip cable with lightning and micro USB connectors – $59.95

• Hold Force folio case; three credit card pockets – $19.95

• Hold Force wallet; two credit card pockets – $19.95

The base case connects to the force powerstation plus mini for battery power – a power cord runs from the battery to the iPhone. The Hold Force folio connects to the back of the base case, wrapping around and covering the front of the iPhone to protect its display and hold a couple of credit cards.

The Hold Force wallet attaches to the back of the base case and holds a couple of credit cards.

The Hold Force powerstation plus mini has a "built-in switch-tip cable" with both Lightning and micro-USB tips, so don't be too surprised when the rest of the Hold Force case collection launches for other devices.
