Infiniti 2019 QX60 Limited and QX80 Limited get luxe SUV makeovers

The New York Auto Show may not be until next week, but Infiniti couldn't resist spilling at least some of its announcements in advance. The 2019 QX60 Limited and 2019 QX80 Limited take two of the Japanese automaker's most popular models and give them an SUV upgrade, with a distinctive exterior reworking along with a luxury makeover inside.

In the case of the 2019 QX60 Limited, Infiniti's best-selling crossover adds bigger wheels and smokier exterior trim. The 20-inch dark color aluminum alloy wheels are unique to the Limited model, and made the dark chrome front grille, fog lamp finishers, and door moldings. The roof rails get a dark premium paint finish, too, as do the cross bars.

On the back, there's a new bumper finish, with gloss black paint, while "LIMITED" badging adorns the hatch. Infiniti finishes the exterior off with 235/55R20 all-season rubber. Step inside, meanwhile, and there's unique contrast stitching along with leather-wrapped grab handles and dark silver wood accents.

The headliner and pillars are finished in black, and there's stone-colored semi-aniline leather for all three rows of seats. Those, too, get quilting, perforation, and contrast stitching and piping. The center console lid and armrests are also stone-colored, while the airbag cover on the steering wheel is leather-wrapped and the door panels quilted. Infiniti even throws in some special floor mats and a cargo mat, too.

Unchanged is the 3.5-liter V6 gas engine, which Infiniti says is good for 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. If you want more – and a bigger SUV overall – there's always the 2019 QX80 Limited. That packs a 5.6-liter V8 engine with a 7-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and 400 horsepower to play with.

Outside, the QX80 Limited gets dark machine-finished 22-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels and stainless steel running boards with rubber grips. The exterior trim is satin chrome, as are the roof rails and crossbars, and there's a special lower treatment to the front and rear bumpers. As on the smaller crossover, there's exclusive badging too, and the QX80 Limited has branded welcome lighting and an exclusive Anthracite Gray paint option.

Inside, there's a seven seat option with captain's chairs in the first and second row, and a bench for the third. Two-tone semi-aniline leather and Alcantara-trimmed seats are included, with Infiniti's favored trio of quilting, contrast piping and stitching. The wheel and shift knob are leather wrapped, while the headliner and pillars get black Ultrasuede and the grab handles are leather wrapped. Matte silver open-pore ash wood trim is on the dash, and satin chrome finishes off the interior handles.

Both cars pack the usual options of adaptive cruise control, various driver assistance systems, and active safety tech. The QX80 has an optional Smart Rear View Mirror that toggles between a traditional mirror and a camera feed from the back of the SUV. The 2019 QX60 Limited is expected to hit dealerships this spring, with the 2019 QX80 Limited following in the summer; pricing will be announced closer to release.
