Huawei Mate 9 revealed with designs from Porsche and Leica

We're live at Huawei Mobile Deustchland's product reveal event in Munich, and as expected, the company has revealed its new Mate 9. There are two Huawei Mate 9s being presented today, and each one represents a partnership with a different company. Huawei is partnering with Porsche Design for one Mate 9, while the second handset introduced today is being co-developed by Leica.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu took the stage to introduce both devices today. He says the Huawei Mate 9 was developed to combat the three major "pain points" with mobile phones. Those pain points are aging performance, disappointing batteries, and the need for an ever-improving camera.

While the Porsche Design and Leica Mate 9s are similar in many ways, there are a few differences. For starters, the Porsche Design model will be the smaller of the two, sporting a 5.5-inch display as compared to the Leica model's 5.9-inch display. The Porsche Design Mate 9 will only be available in Matte Black, while the Leica Mate 9 will be available in a variety of different colors.

The Mate 9 co-developed with Leica seems to be the main model here, with the Porsche Design Mate 9 being offered as a limited edition phone. There's no word on availability just yet, but those will be coming up shortly. Just as well, Huawei is currently detailing the hardware in both phones, so those details will be arriving quickly as well.

There's plenty more to come from Huawei's product reveal event in Munich today, so stay tuned for more.
