Huawei debuts MediaPad X2 with 7in HD screen

Huawei's Mobile World Congress 2015 announcements continue with the debut of the MediaPad X2, with a 7-inch screen placing it squarely in the phablet category. As a follow-up to the original MediaPad, the X2 has slimmed down to 7.28 mm thick, and now features a 64-bit ultra octa-core chipset inside its aluminum casing. Other upgrades across the board, including the camera and screen, should make this a contender in a widening range of Android phablet offerings.Huawei likes to boast that the MediaPad X2 is the world's thinnest 7-inch phablet device, and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 80%. While the claim of easy one-handed use will certainly be dependent on users' grip size. Either way, the screen certainly won't be ignored, with a 1200 x 1920 HD IPS display at 323 ppi.

Alongside the 2.0GHz 64 bit eight-core CPU is 2GB of memory and 16GB of storage in the standard sliver model, while a premium amber gold version will increase that to 3GB of memory and 32GB of storage. The MediaPad X2 also makes use of a 4G dual-sim layout, as well as a 2.4G dual-Wi-Fi antenna, offering a solid range of connectivity options.

The rear camera comes in at 13MP with improved low-light performance, with a 5MP front-facing camera feature a F2.4 aperture. The 5,000 mAh Li-Polymer battery is said to support a full day of heavy use, with Huawei claiming 12 hours of streaming online video, 15 hours of internet surfing, or 60 hours of music playback with headphones. As of now, pricing and release dates are still to come.
