Hollow Knight gets a surprise Nintendo Switch release at E3 2018

Most of Nintendo's E3 2018 showcase was focused on Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but some other games were given some time in the spotlight as well. One of those games was Hollow Knight, a Metroidvania title that won the hearts of a lot of people when it launched on PC in February of last year. We've known about the Switch port of Hollow Knight for quite some time, but today, Nintendo made a surprise announcement for this new version.

As it turns out, Hollow Knight is actually available on the Switch eShop today. Nintendo seems to be a fan of these surprise releases, as it made a similar announcement for Fortnite during its E3 presentation. Suddenly, Switch owners have two new excellent games to check out.

If battle royale isn't quite your speed, then you might want to have a look at the love letter to Metroid and Castlevania that is Hollow Knight. In fact, Hollow Knight has arguably become the definitive Metroidvania title of this generation. It seems like a perfect game for the Switch as well, since its focus on exploration makes it great for small bursts on a portable console.

Hollow Knight is launching with all of the extra content that has been released on PC thus far, and just like the PC version, that extra content is available at no additional cost. Speaking of cost, it's worth pointing out that unlike some Switch ports of other games, Hollow Knight is priced the same as its PC counterpart at $15. This is the first time Hollow Knight has made its way to consoles, so perhaps we can look forward to Xbox One and PS4 ports at some point in the future?

Time will tell on that front, but for now, be sure to check out Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch if you're a fan of adventure games. At the same time, have a look at our E3 2018 hub for all of coverage from the show!
