Google Maps gets Voice Search on Chrome browser for desktops

Google has just updated its Google Maps service with voice search capabilities. This feature has been available for its mobile interface for awhile now where getting directions hands-free is perhaps more significant. Nonetheless, if you are too lazy to type on your full keyboard while in front of your desktop, you now have the option to just speak.

But for now, the feature for Google Maps will only work when accessed via the Chrome web browser. A small blue microphone icon appears in the search bar and lets you speak to search. For some, this will be less a convenience of not having to type and more of a solution when a place name is difficult to spell. Google gives the examples "Poughkeepsie" and "Liechtenstein."

The voice search feature has been available on Android devices as well as through Google's iOS app with the desktop version being unleashed more recently. Back in June, the feature was announced for desktops along with a new search by image feature similar to Google Goggles.
