Galaxy S8 Active Specs Revealed In New Leak

Even though Samsung hasn't said anything official, it sure seems like a Galaxy S8 Active is on the way. Considering that Samsung has released an Active variant of all recent phones in the S-series, a Galaxy S8 Active is almost a sure thing. Today we're getting possibly the best evidence yet that the Galaxy S8 Active is around the corner: leaked specifications that seem to come from an official source.

The specifications were posted to microblogging site Weibo. In that post, we see three images in all, each listing a collection of Galaxy S8 Active specs. In short: it looks like the Galaxy S8 Active won't lose much of the hardware that makes the standard Galaxy S8 an excellent phone, despite the added ruggedness.

This leak tells us that the Galaxy S8 Active will ship with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display that outputs at 2960x1440 resolution. To help with shatter and scratch protection, that display will be equipped with Gorilla Glass 5, though the MIL-STD-810G certification will certainly help with that as well. Like the standard Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Active will feature IP68 water and dust resistance too.

On the inside, we'll have a Snapdragon 835 running the show, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The phone seems to feature the same rear-facing and front-facing cameras of the standard Galaxy S8, but one area where Samsung made changes was in the battery. Instead of the 3,000mAh battery that features in the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Active will have a 4,000mAh battery.

We don't know when Samsung plans to announce the Galaxy S8 Active, but it's possible that the reveal we've been waiting for could come next month during the company's Galaxy Note 8 event. History tells us that when it does arrive, we should expect it to be exclusive to one carrier, though the Weibo post notes that the Galaxy S8 Active doesn't show any AT&T branding. Perhaps that means Samsung will be branching out to other carriers with this release? One can only hope that's the case – stay tuned.
