Fortnite's Playground mode is still nowhere to be seen

Earlier this week, Fortnite briefly received an exciting new game mode: Playground. The reason why Playground mode is so intriguing to players is because it's essentially a sandbox where you can build, explore, and practice fighting to your heart's content. You can bring some friends too, giving you and your group a private map on which to strategize and scrimmage.

Unfortunately, Playground was only live for a short time before Epic had to take it offline. Not long after Fortnite version 4.5 had been applied, Epic started experiencing problems with matchmaking that forced it to remove Playground mode from the game. At first, it seemed like it wouldn't be long until it made its return.

Originally, Epic planned to bring the game mode back sometime on June 28, which was yesterday, but Thursday came and went without any relaunch. Today, Epic posted a thread to Reddit that said it was still working to resolve the issues and that it would have another update at 12:00 PM Eastern. When noon rolled around, the only thing Epic had to say was, "We're continuing to test improvements that are needed to enable the Playground LTM. We'll have another update shortly."

So, we're left waiting even longer for more information on when Playground mode might return. Hopefully Epic has some more encouraging news to share later on in the day, because there have been a string of updates so far that don't say anything more than "we're still working on resolving these issues." With nothing else to go on, it's pretty easy to imagine that Fortnite's player base is beginning to get a little antsy.

On the plus side, at least Epic is keeping players in the loop, even when it doesn't have any news to share. That's a big improvement over the last time Fortnite had a major outage, which saw the official Twitter account staying silent for more than half a day. In any case, we'll keep a eye out for further updates, so stay tuned for more.
