Ford Police Interceptor update teased ahead of Chicago debut

You've likely seen more than a few Ford Interceptor vehicles over the years — maybe you've even been pulled over by one or two, it happens. As with all things, the cars police officers drive around are regularly updated to ensure our law enforcement has the latest and greatest, and that includes the SUV version of Ford's Police Interceptor model. We've seen the 2015 version, but the newest of them all hasn't made its appearance...not yet, at least. We'll be seeing it later this month when it makes its official debut on February 12, but ahead of that Ford has teased the model.

This newest version of the Ford Interceptor SUV will be based on the 2016 Ford Explorer, which we saw unveiled at the 2014 LA Auto Show. A look at the model, which will be arriving this summer, coupled with previous Interceptors gives us an idea of what to expect, though we still don't know the finer details.

On Monday, Ford dropped the above image to tease the Interceptor, leaving it shrouded in shadows with just enough light to tease those slim lights and mean grille. Ford will take the wraps off the SUV at the Chicago Auto Show on February 12, and we'll have all the details when that day arrives.

Ford has been involved with law enforcement's automotive needs for a long while, and it hasn't limited itself to manufacturing the commonly used Interceptors. In October of last year, the auto maker introduced its new automotive surveillance system designed specifically for use in police cars, tasked with monitoring driving data all the way down to little things like whether an officer is wearing his or her seat belt.
