Flipboard for iPhone released

Flipboard has come a long way since its launch on the iPad last year, and now it's ironically getting smaller: iPhone sized. Redesigned to suit the iPhone's 3.5-inch display, Flipboard 1.7 introduces a new Cover Stories feature that automatically learns from the articles, news and photos readers are most interested in, and prioritizes content it believes they'll also want to see. Meanwhile, there's still integration with social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Log into your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Instagram, Google Reader, Flickr and 500px accounts, and the shared content doing the rounds on them will automatically be visible in Flipboard. There's also a global search bar, which will search across all networks, and straightforward sharing support. Instapaper and Read It Later tie-ins allow for storing content for subsequent review.

Those who have been using Flipboard on the iPad will be able to log into their account on the iPhone version and access any saved stories and social networks. Meanwhile, Flipboard's browsing UI has been switched around for the iPhone version: whereas the iPad uses a horizontal-scroll system, as with a magazine, the iPhone app scrolls vertically for easier one-handed browsing.

Flipboard 1.7 is a free download from the iTunes App Store. The Cover Stories feature is coming soon to the iPad version.
