Fast.com speed test arrives as mobile app for Android and iOS

Back in May, Netflix launched an Internet speed test called Fast.com. You don't have to be a Netflix user to use it, but it is a nice way to see what speeds you're getting and find out whether it's the reason your video keeps buffering. According to Netflix, it has seen millions of people use Fast.com to check their speeds, and so now they're offering them another option: Fast as a mobile app for iOS and Android.

Netflix announced the new app today, saying it wants to provide mobile users with a fast-loading, easy to use app that gets right down to business. The app is exactly that — it only tells you the connection's download speed, and you don't have to do anything after launching the app to get it. After providing the speed, it gives you two options: retry it, or compare it to another speed testing service.

The mobile app has the same design as the Fast.com website, and in my quick and rudimentary testing, I found it to be fairly accurate, though not super consistent: it returned with 24Mbps the first time, 19Mbps right after, 21Mbps the third time, and then, finally, 20Mbps where it held steady in subsequent tests.
