Euro launch for Samsung Galaxy S: Super AMOLED, Android 2.1 & more

Samsung's Galaxy S GT-I9000 has finally launched, with the 4-inch Super AMOLED Android 2.1 smartphone hitting Europe first before rolling out to the rest of the world – the US included – later in 2010.  Toting a Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird processor, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, along with 3G/UMTS, TouchWiz 3.0 and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, we've been waiting for the Galaxy S for quite some time.

As well as the main camera – which has a special panorama mode – there's a front-facing camera for video calls.  You also get the Swype keyboard pre-loaded, either 8GB or 16GB of onboard storage (with a microSD card slot) and a media app happy with DivX, Xvid, H.264, MPEG-4 and other formats.

So far Samsung are keeping pricing details for the handset close to their chest, but seeing as they've roped in over 100 carriers to offer the smartphone, we're guessing each will be setting their own price point.  That implies free on contract in many European countries, assuming you're willing to sign up to a mid- to high-tier agreement, but we'd imagine it'll be more like $100-$200 when it finally hits the US.
