Encrypted USB Memory Stick Reviewed
If you're in the market for a USB memory key to keep top-secret and vitally important documents on, you might be interested in Everything USB's latest review; they put the Kingston Data Traveler Secure 4gb drive through its paces to see just how well it lives up to its boasts of 256-bit AES encryption and robust casing. They even run it over with a Honda Element.
The drive allows you to define your own encrypted partition, leaving as much or as little without password protection; sadly, though, you can't access both partitions simultaneously. It allows ten consecutive attempts to log-in, after which points it locks up and must be formatted before it can be used again. As well as the encryption software, there's a "helpful" system-tray programme which allows quick access to locking the partition, managing files and limited synchronising; Everything USB uninstalled it pretty smartish.
Perhaps most importantly, the reviewers found that data transfer rates were fast and efficient even when encrypting the data on-the-fly. You'll have to read the review to find out just how fast...
