Dynamic email in Gmail released for Android and iOS
The app version of Gmail for both iPhone/iPad and Android devices was updated this week for AMP. This new system was previously announced as it rolled out to Gmail for the web. It's called "dynamic email" in Gmail, and it "brings the richness and interactivity of AMP" to your emails of all sorts. This new system makes Gmail an even-more-dominant email client for all Android users, and will likely give another bump to iOS users in the process.
With dynamic email in Gmail, users can now "take action" inside emails. Examples Google used several times for this system are "RSVP to an event, fill out a questionnaire, browse a catalog, or respond to a comment." It makes things quicker, and makes the quickness feel natural.
UPDATE: Google's full official documentation on dynamic email in Gmail includes the following list of potential. This is how you can "complete tasks without leaving a message", as Google puts it.
You can use dynamic email to:
• RSVP to events
• Fill out questionnaires
• Browse catalogs
• Respond to comments
• Update emails to display the latest content
The goal here is to make the process of using email less of a necessary evil and more of a usable tool for the modern world. You may see dynamic email appear in your Gmail app automatically, but you might also want to check to see if you can switch it on, now, manually.
Turn dynamic email in Gmail on or off:
1. Open Gmail in a web browser or the Gmail app
2. Sign in to your Gmail account.
3. Tap Settings – it'll be a little gear in the upper right of your screen. Tap the gear, then tap the word Settings
4. Find "Dynamic Email" in/under the "General" section in Settings
5. Check or un-check the box next to "Enable dynamic email"
You might not see this option – you might also be able to access an option that says "preview dynamic emails" and "Use the settings below to display dynamic emails during development. This is only recommended for test accounts and in private browsing mode." With "Always allow dynamic emails from this sender." This option suggests that dynamic emails must be SPF, DKIM and DMARC-authenticated.
NOTE: Gmail apps have Settings sorta hidden. You'll need to begin with the hamburger menu, regardless of if you're using the iOS or Android app:
1. Tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) to reveal your mailboxes
2. Swipe up on the list of mailboxes, all the way to the bottom of the list
3. Tap Settings
4. Tap General Settings
5. See Step 5 above, and remember: You might not be able to see this yet
For mobile users, rollout begins on November 21 – but again, not for all users right out the gate. Per Google, this release is on "extended rollout" (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starting on November 21, 2019. Dynamic email will be switched ON by default for all G Suite editions.
