Dell makes its XPS 13 2-in-1 convertible notebook official

Well that didn't take long: Dell has officially confirmed its next XPS 13 notebook. The machine was leaked over the weekend, with rumors pointing toward a 2-in-1 convertible design that allows users to transition between a tablet mode and a more traditional notebook format. Just as those rumors foretold, Dell has revealed a 2-in-1 design for the next XPS 13.

The XPS 13 for 2017 features a 360-degree hinge that allows users to fold the notebook into a variety of different configurations. While 2-in-1 notebooks are nothing new, this is a first for the XPS 13, though at this moment Dell isn't getting all that specific about the spec list for this new machine. More details will almost certainly be coming later this week, when Dell has its new XPS 13 on display at CES.

For now, though, Dell is parting with a few tidbits. The battery within the XPS 13 2-in-1 has a reported lifespan of 15 hours, though expect your mileage to vary. It's been outfitted with a QHD+ Infinity Edge display, which Dell notes is a first for a 2-in-1. It sounds like Dell will offer a number of different hardware configurations for this notebook, with a business model sporting a 7th generation Intel Core vPro CPU.

While more hardware specifications are likely coming down the pipeline soon, Dell actually announced pricing and release details today. The new XPS 13 will be available at Best Buy and through Dell's website beginning on January 5, with prices starting at $999. That doesn't seem too bad, but obviously, the price will change depending on the hardware configuration you want.

With January 5 right around the corner, we'll be finding out more about this new 2-in-1 shortly. Keep it here for more details, and in the meantime, check out our CES 2017 hub for more information straight from the show floor.
