Commercial Surface Laptop with Windows 10 Pro now available

The Surface Laptop, love it or hate it, comes with a big restriction: Windows 10 S. This version of Windows 10 is designed to provide a secure experience, but in providing that security Microsoft introduced a big restriction. Users are only able to download software from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 S; they can't grab a download from any given website. A new Surface Laptop option changes that.READ: Microsoft Surface Laptop Review: The anti-MacBook Pro

Microsoft has started selling a commercial version of the Surface Laptop that runs regular Windows 10 Pro rather than Windows 10 S.

With Windows 10 Pro comes the abilities you don't have in Windows 10 S, such as the option of using a Web browser other than Microsoft Edge and downloading software from outside of the Microsoft Store.

The base tier Commercial Surface Laptop features an Intel Core i5 alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; for that buyers will pay $1,199, which is a bit higher than the Windows 10 S variant's $1,099 price tag. Buyers can also choose an Intel i7 version with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the price for which is $2,749 USD.

Oddly enough, Microsoft is giving commercial Surface Laptop buyers two additional color options: burgundy and cobalt blue, as well as the regular platinum color. This is compared to the Windows 10 S version, which is only offered in platinum. Ultimately, though, this probably isn't a sign that the non-commercial Surface Laptop will be offered with a Windows 10 Pro option.
